ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Steven is the Artistic Director and Founder of the Long Island Musical Theatre Festival. The LIMTF bridges the gap between quality education and professional theatre by empowering students to work alongside Broadway guest artists, perform a fully staged musical backed by a professional orchestra, and learn the craft by training with current industry professionals. The LIMTF stands today to help passionate, eager students discover themselves as performers in an educational and fun program that encourages risk-taking and professional growth in a safe environment.
The LIMTF was born from Steven's yearning to merge his two lifelong passions for musical theatre and music education. The journey began with his discovery of choral music in the 4th grade, which served as the compass that inspired him to pursue a music education degree in college. Post-graduation, Steven furthered his education working in musical theatre camps at his alma mater, Westminster Choir College, which set the stage for his collaborations with dear friend, Nathan Brewer, the Founder and Artistic Director of Recreational Arts. The duo later combined their talents and dreams to birth the idea and create the platform for the Long Island Musical Theatre Festival.
“The program was created for students who want to enter the professional performing arts world,” says Altinel. “The kids in our program are very focused, and we conduct the production process like any professional theatre company would.”
